Remote Alaska Fishing Lodge

Remote Alaska Fishing Lodge

Over the past several years, this remote Alaska fishing lodge has proven to be one the best Salmon and Steelhead fisheries in the world!  Imagine riverside lodging with amazing fishing just a cast away. This river is seemingly designed for fly fishing and is easily waded and fished with either a single handed, or two handed rods.  If you are into swinging flies for hot sea run fish, this is the trip for you.

The Sandy is located  500 miles from Anchorage on the Alaska Peninsula. It would be difficult to find a place more remote than the Sandy River Lodge. This remote fishing lodge is has been in operation for over thirty years.  Surrounded by remarkable scenery with wide open terrain, breath taking mountain views and volcanoes rising in the distance the scenery can be as amazing as the fishing.

Many fishing lodges, not only in Alaska, but around the world are becoming more and more crowded, which often requires early wake ups, strict scheduling and precise timing in order to deliver the high quality fly fishing experience you are looking for. Given there is very little competition on the Sandy and having some of the best guides in the business, our approach can be somewhat more casual.

We can say with confidence; this is easily one of the best fly fishing lodges in the world to fish for kings and steelhead.

THE FISHING

This remote Alaska fishing lodge is located near some of the rivers best fly water.   Most of the fishing is accessed by jet boats. You can expect to fish in a group where one guide and two clients will explore the rivers many great runs before returning to the lodge at the end of the day. fly fishing lodge

King season begins in June and continues into July.  The king salmon runs at the Sandy have been very
consistent and strong over the last 35 years. The king salmon in the Sandy generally run about 20- 30 pounds with a few fish tipping the 40+ pound mark every year.

The steelhead run begins to fish well in mid September and on through October.  Like the king salmon runs the steelhead run on the Sandy is nothing less than impressive.  The fish are wild, healthy and grabby.  These fish average 30 inches and 10 lbs. However, fish in the mid to upper teens are often caught and fish 20 pounds and over are landed every season.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND MEALS

It would be difficult to find a place more remote than the Sandy River Lodge.  This modest fishing lodge, located on the end of the Alaska Peninsula, provides very comfortable riverside accommodations.  The Sandy has a main dining and lounge building along with separate cabins where clients generally sleep 2 per room.  While this fishing lodge is not fancy, you will find it more than comfortable and a very welcome site after swinging the rivers many classic style runs for Kings and Steelhead. fly fishing lodge

Dining is casual here and generally speaking, not fancy.  It can be easily described as “meat and potatoes” style.  However, we do work very hard to provide a wide variety of meals throughout the week.  Breakfast is usually made to order.  Lunches are fairly simple including soups and sandwiches.  Weekly dinner items typically include: prime rib, halibut, salmon, chicken, king crab and steak.  There is always lighter fare available and vegetarian dishes are happily prepared for those who would prefer.
